Images From The Road – Jackson, Wyoming
by William Lulow
Well, the first one was made by a fellow passenger who just happened to be from Montclair, NJ so it was just fitting for our landing here:
They seem to have antlers all over the place. But, as we have traveled up and down the front range of the Rockies this summer, I kind of feel like I am “picking” various scenes that seem to be representative of the areas we visited.
The majestic Teton Mountains are everywhere. And here are some random images from downtown Jackson:
“Downtown” Jackson, Wyoming looked like a New York City street scene except that all the passers-by were tourists! But it was just as crowded. So I decided to focus on images that were closeups that included very few, if any, people! The weather was bad for almost our entire visit, but there are many images that can be made in the rain that look great because of shiny pavements that create reflections.
This is artist, Kristin Alley Carver from Eden, Utah whom we met at the Jackson Hole Crafts Fair (in the rain), and from whom we bought a linotypye.
Here are some mountain shots from the Grand Tetons:
As I have mentioned, when I am just walking around or touring, I normally just carry the camera with my 20mm f/2.8 lens and a series of filters. Most of these images were made with this setup. There are many images one can make even in bad weather. One thing I always like about shooting in the rain is the reflection on the pavement. It adds a certain “pop” to the pictures, so much so that I have often requested pavement to be hosed down even on sunny days. There is such an image of a hotel on my “Interiors/Exteriors” page on the website.
The mountain shots were made mostly with the camera on a tripod. The Black&White’s were shot with a red #25A filter to darken blue skies, and the color images were filtered with my gradient neutral density filter pack.

Nice! Love the antler closeup and the Buffalo Eye. Also the shot of the two of you.
Thanks, Paul. Appreciate the comments.
It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife in Jackson Hole last weekend. You are an amazing photographer, your pictures are stunning and I enjoy seeing the world through your lens. I am looking forward to more pictures from your travels and your work. Let me know if you are ever in the Houston area, Steve and I would love to visit you again.
