Tom Chapin At The Towne Crier Cafe
Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Tom Chapin with the Chapin Sisters in concert at the Towne Crier Cafe in Beacon, New York. Since I have photographed many concerts at this venue, I am familiar with the lighting and the overall stage illumination. These images were all shot at around ISO 2000-2500 at a shutter speed of 1/60th of a second and an aperture of f/4.0 to f/4.5. I found that I was able to make acceptable prints up to and including 11×14 in both color and black & white. These were all shot with the camera mounted on a monopod for some extra stability. Although, at 1/60th of a second it should still be able to be hand-held. I used my 85mm f/1.8 and the 20mm f/2.8 lenses.
When I photograph performers, I’m usually trying to get a “moment of expression” in which they are revealing a little of their enthusiasm for what they do.
